Our members spend many hours in training each year.    In addition to monthly training, we have training sessions for new equipment (see Extrication School below) and to keep our skills up to date.   When we received a portable foam unit and we spent some training time working with that piece of equipment.  Looks like we're having fun with soap suds in the pictures!

One of the skills we really keep on top of (since we don't have hydrants in much of our area) is "drafting" water from available water sources.   Here are some our sessions at Lake Hartwell including some photos of our new floatable pump that allows us to pull water from the lake (or maybe your swimming pool) even if we can't get a truck close enough to use our suction hose.

EXTRICATION SCHOOL

Six FPFD members participated in the Southeastern Extrication School during the weekend of February 20-22,2009, in Darlington, SC.   The training started with classroom sessions on Friday evening and Saturday and concluded with a full day of practical exercises. Members participated in exercises covering school bus extrication, advanced hydraulics, and use of the Res-Q-Jack tool which the department just obtained through funding from Oconee County Emergency Services.  The Res-Q-Jack equipment is used for stabilization and can be configured in a variety of ways to meet specific situations.  The training on the Res-Q-Jack was very timely as this tool was used the day after we returned to stabilize a vehicle in a single vehicle accident on Broomway Road in Fair Play.   (Click on arrows to move photos.  Click on each photo to show in the larger frame.)
